The Cooperative movement covers
various sectors like credit,marketing,dairying,consumer
cooperatives,Handlooms,Housing upliftment of Weaker sections etc.,The
societies are the instruments of the Cooperative movement to achieve the
expectations of the public.
The
main objective of this department is to motivate the public towards
the cooperative movement.Under this objectives this department has
registered various cooperative societies were
working under the
supervision of the Regional Cooperative Officer, under the control of
Regional Executive Officer,Yanam.
The main
functions of this department is registration,supervision,inspection,Audit
etc.,are performed by the Registrar of Cooperative
Societies,Pondicherry,assisted by the subordinate officer who were
empowered under the Pondicherry Cooperative Societies Act 1972 and
the rules framed thereunder.The functions are implementation of
various plan schemes for providing financial
assistance,subsidy,grant to Cooperative societies which are actually
involved in the development field of housing,Credit,Consumer,Dairy
development etc..
The
Registrar of Cooperative Societies is the coordinating authority and
having administrative control over all the Cooperative
Societies,except fishermen Cooperative Societies
which are under the control of the Director of
Fisheries.
The Director of Fisheries
designated as Additional Registrar of Cooperative
Societies(Fisheries).
At present,the office of
the Cooperative Officer,Cooperative Department,Yanam having 20 various
Cooperative Societies which are listed in the annexure.
